Hold your head a little higher

Wading in the waves

Splash against your cheeks

You'll learn to sway

And at the end

You'll learn to pray

The long road of whats' at stake

Past the promises you forsake

Pebbles from the pavement

Proof nothing stays intact

It all comes down to

how you choose to react

In the empty stays of independent lies

Bundled so closely they seem almost ghostly

Laid out in the wreckage of the crash of could have been

She comes to pick you up from a road gone rogue

She speaks to you in a dialect that sounds like sadness

Map indistinguishable, rubbed by time

So you take any road your wheels bear traction

Giving favor to any vaguely familiar site

You'll cross a river you've never seen

You'll stop and pine over territory uncharted

Thought you had the time

Wonder how many pennies thrown only not to come true

Caught in the current of all they couldn't do

Lofty, like wishes not spoken and prayers never heard

So you shout them louder vibrating desperation that has no use

Fate sealed in the frailty of voices echoing nothing new

Along the splintered dock

Nails rise up through wood bound to rot

It burrows in your skin but it knows not to bleed

For it's the heart that walks the plank from love's mutiny
